As part of your puppy’s development, it will bite just about everything it can sink its teeth into. This is one of the main ways which your puppy finds out about the world. Do not worry too much, as long as you take steps to gently curbing its habits, things should be fine.

If your puppy bites to hard, do not get it any more excited by wrestling it and tugging on whatever is in its grasp. We have all seen how a grown dog gets overly enthusiastic when a human challenges it to a tug of war, multiply this by ten and then try calming your puppy down, good luck with that.

Never hit or scream loudly at your puppy if it bites too hard. This will almost always confuse and scare it. Remember, your dog is not trying to be vicious; this is simply part of its learning process. By continually frightening it, you will cause it to become more hostile and wary as it gets older, this can lead to overly aggressive behaviour.

Use consistent methods to teach your puppy not to bit. The chances are, you dog will have learnt no too be too rough, simply by life lessons in its litter, either that or the mother will have let it know. If it still bites, use a stern low voice with a regular single word while holding it firmly for a few seconds.

Have a chewable object available to transfer his attention from your body part to the item. A bone or chewy toy will help form new associations when your dog feels its time to bite.
