If you are serious about learning dog training technique, you’ve probably thought of different ways to do it. Some of the options don’t suit your busy schedule, and some are too expensive and don’t fit your family budget. Go on reading and I’ll show you the best way to become your own dog training expert for an affordable to everybody price.

There are as many ways to teach something as there are dogs to be taught. There are old
traditional school when severe punishment was frequently used as a tool, and a modified traditional method with reinforcement as the most important way to strengthen or weaken a desirable behavior.

Reinforcement occurs when a behavior is strengthened by its consequences and only effective if presented at the moment the dog produces the target behavior.

Two forms of reinforcement – positive and negative – are used as a dog training technique. Don’t get confused with punishment and negative reinforcement – they are two different learning phenomena, even though they often occurs together.

Negative reinforcement occurs when a behavior is strengthened by the termination, reduction or avoidance of an undesirable consequence. To make it simple to understand in this conversation, “negative” means removal of an aversive. For instance, you tell the dog to sit while pulling up on the slip collar and push on it’s rump. When the dog sits, you stop pulling, thus removing the unwanted action.

Punishment occurs in two ways. Positive punishment is the addition of some object or action that the dog finds aversive or undesirable. The dog continues to bark after being given a command to stop, and you squirt some water at it to startle it.

Negative punishment is the removal of some desirable object or action. You tell the dog to sit, but the dog leaps up trying to grab your attention. You turn around, fold your hands on chest and ignore it. You are taking away a very desirable object – your attention.

Let me compare three different ways to learn dog training technique.

- Sending your dog into a training camp or school. Might cost you thousands of dollars.
- Hire a private obedience trainer or start group classes. Less, but still pretty expensive.
- Electronic books, the cost of which is equal to one private lesson.

It’s up to you to decide how you want to learn a dog training technique. I recommend to you to check the source I personally use myself.
